so, my mom is coming for a month long visit, arriving on thursday. i am quite excited, but one of our headaches with parental visits (both sets) is coffee grounds. how is it that they seem to make a giant mess more often than not? is this a general coffee drinker problem, or just a parental problem? anyway, to get to the point, pat and i are contemplating getting a nespresso machine so we can hopefully bypass coffee grounds altogether. they have a few regular coffee flavors in addition to the espresso flavors. and as an added bonus we could theoretically invite people over for coffee and actually have coffee to serve. imagine that! as most of you are aware, neither of us knows the first thing about coffee. so are hoping we could get some nespresso opinions, input and advice. please feel free to comment (as you always should) even if you did not attend PLU or don’t have a spouse/partner that attended PLU.
I feel inclined to comment just because of your last sentence Emily. My aunt has something similar, and she loves it. She used to brew a large pot of coffee and drink it throughout the week, which appalled my parents. She loves the pod aspect because it brews just the right amount. They also come with pod teas too.
thanks sara! haha–there definitely is something a little appalling about drinking the same pot of coffee throughout the week.
well, pat got all gung-ho about this and ordered a machine and a bunch of pods last night. does this entice any of you coffee drinkers to come for a visit?!
We sell that or something similar at Macy’s. When I still worked there I spoke with a gal who went to the vendor fair and had some of it she said it was awesome. Easy, less messy, good tasting but that she still thought it would be a hard sell b/c you have to buy those particular pod thingys and a lot of people don’t want to be tided down to something that may just be a fad. Plus its expensive if you’re buying everyday but if you only use it for company it would be great.
thanks melissa. those are pretty much my initial thoughts on the product (re: hard sell). i am puzzled as to why they are so popular in europe. at any rate, my mom had her first cup yesterday and gave it a thumbs up, i think. i think it was pretty strong. and it’s always hard to tell with mothers, you know? even when you grow up, they still don’t want to hurt your feelings, no matter how much you beg for honesty! ugh–she brought ground coffee with her on her carry on and ALREADY it was leaking out of the bag and was over the table and counter.
