Today ekbo, Mr. J and I went down to Theo Chocolates to check out the fancy s’mores and they were excellent. Slanky told us about how Theo was celebrating National S’mores Day (did anyone know that was a day?) with home made marshmallows, graham crackers and your choice of their chocolate bars. They did not disappoint. I think all were in agreement that they were the some of the tastiest s’mores we’d ever had. I only wish I’d gotten a picture of one but we ate them so quickly that there was no time for documentation. I personally had the Chai bar with mine and ekbo had the mint. I think the coconut curry would have also been quite tasty. The marshmallow was really awesome. It had that marshmallowy taste with none of the plastic overtones that commercially made marshmallows have. And the graham crackers were much more buttery and a tiny bit thicker than the normal kind. If you’re in the Seattle area they’ll be serving s’mores tomorrow and Saturday from 3-6pm. Go get yourself one!
sounds wonderful. I’ll have to keep this in mind and check it out one day. how do s’mores for dinner sound?
national s’mores day? why has no one informed me of this sooner?? and at theo chocolates? *sssiiiggghhh* i have a recipe for homemade graham crackers, maybe i should try it out…i can make marshmallows too. and the chocolate…well, there’s no shortage. though i’m not sure i’ll find anything as cool as theo’s. and ekbo, dahlia J, and jonah–definitely can’t get me some of those here. *sniff* miss you guys!
it was a tasty s’more – for me, that delicious marshmallow put it over the top! i might have to make an annual trip to theo in honor of national s’mores day.

and you know, homemade marshmallows are SUPER easy to make!

I once saw Martha Stewart make them and I was fascinated. Couldn’t believe that they could be made at home! Thought that industrial machinery was necessary. Also, I couldn’t believe that anyone would bother making them when they can be bought. Perhaps it is like baking bread though…process has its own rewards and better taste. Certainly sounds like it by the raving. I was converted to homemade whip cream by Ms. Frances. Sure you can buy it in a can but it really is so much better that it is worth the trouble.
melissa, you crack me up! whipped cream is so easy to make, i’m not sure it even warrants the phrase “worth the trouble”!
i’m glad to have converted you. marshmallows on the other hand…i still think there’s a time and place for store bought, and only use homemade on occasion. they are easy, but they are not ridiculously easy. kinda messy too. that’s the main thing, actually. they taste WAY different than kraft marshmallows. have you ever had the homemade ones you can buy from whole foods (and maybe trader joe’s? am i remember that right? trader joes, i miss you!)?
