When I type I always put two spaces after each period. It annoys slanky, so much so that when he was editing our new year letter he went through everything I wrote, which was practically the entire document, and took out all of the “extra” spaces (I think he also did this last year but didn’t complain quite so much so I promptly forgot all about it). I learned to type in high school, on a type writer, and that’s what I learned. Period, space space, beginning of next sentence. Apparently, this is no longer the traditional typing method and in the digital world only one space after a period should be used. We got into quite a discussion about it and here is what we found: Double spacing at the end of sentences.
So we were all supposed to switch to the “french” spacing at some point in the last decade or so and I’m wondering how many of you have made the alteration.

what?! that is craziness. i definitely do not do the french spacing, and am not even sure that i could make myself do it. two spaces is so automatic (i also learned to type on a typewriter, but in jr. high). this does however explain why some blog programs always take out my double spaces, which irritated me to no end!
period space space for sure! We got points taken off for each error in typing. I had heard that a while back that they were changing the rules. I just decided I had been typing long enough to be grandfathered in. Oh, those old type writers. I wonder if they are still using them at good ol’ AHS? I’m starting to feel like a real old timer. I remember my mom talking about what it was like before TV and what it was like when they got one. Now I’m going to be telling the same story with the internet.
period space space — ingrained! i also learned to type on a typewriter in high school. jay often tells me that i only need (should) use one space, but i just can’t do it!
I’m a one spacer. Had a job at PLU were I created a lot of documents, and my boss made me fix every one of the double spaces. Eventually I made the transition.
OMG! Who would make someone do that? That person is insane with their own power!
